Unfortunately, there is another hurricane heading towards the studio and I have been busy preparing. I started a scene that would be fit for gossip section of Harpers Weekly- A sordid tale of a Union Captain turned Confederate spy. The plan is to turn this into a pen drawing.
Taking a lot of reference photos allows me to add or remove the parts I want or don’t want from the composition. In the original photos, there are more guards, some tourists, and other things not wholly necessary to convey the subject. I have done a sketch to include some camp items like tents for context of the event. Here, I have traced the sketch and carbon copied it to my paper.
I'm an artist working in Colorado. I prefer mediums that allow me be as tonal or as structed as I please. The landscape provides countless joys for me as I attempt to understand its patterns.
In 2009, I graduated from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore, MD with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis on Drawing. Here, I created works that appeared in the 2008 issue of Drawing Magazine.
While attending Colorado State University, I taught Painting, Figure Painting, and Principles of Design as a Graduate Instructor. I graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 2014.
Since then, I have worked to be a part of the artist community of Northern Colorado. I was one of the first members of the Gallery 970 Co-op in Loveland. I am a member of the Northern Colorado Artist Community in LaPorte where I am active as an instructor.
